Chennai: The Corporation road in Perungudi is full of potholes and is damaged till

the end of the road where the sewage is dumped. The road has been providing inconvenience

to the residents and everyday commuters of the area for four years now.

The road is after the Perungudi toll plaza.

Anand, a resident, said that it is difficult to travel on this road.

“During rains, the situation worsens. We are not able to walk,” he added.

When asked if he has ever complained about the roads, Anand said that the residents had

complained numerous times to the corporation, but nothing has been done.

The roads are also unsafe for the school children there.

Ovia, school coordinator at Shanti Juniors pre-school in that area said that apart from the

damaged roads there is an open drainage also outside the school.

“Many parents have complained to the Perungudi corporation office, but nothing has been

done,” she added.

The blacktopped surface of the road has come off. The reporter saw trucks and sewage lorries

moving on the road, due to which there is also dust in the air.

Sreedevi Ramachandran, principal of Sri Chaitanya School said that most of the parents drop

their child by two-wheeler, which is unsafe for the students due to the roads.

“There are a lot of sewage lorries moving, which create problems for parents and students

when they arrive in the morning.”

Ramachandran said that we have had a few incidents of the school staff falling because of the

potholes and the stones.

“The roads are dangerous as some high-school students come by either bicycle or walk.”

The school has filed complaints to the corporation many times, but so far they have not taken

any action, she added.

The school admin said that the last petition filed by the school was in 2021.

A parent outside the school said that the roads are in bad condition, and it makes it extremely

difficult for him to travel. “However, nothing has been done.”
